RECAP
I am so glad that we have a recap week!!! I think we all need a few moments to collect our thoughts and try to BREATHE!!!!
Feels like too much!
Right now I feel that I am bouncing back and forth from place to place trying to keep track of it all! I am trying to keep up with the blog, address Yammer, find sites for delicious, check e-mails, follow WebCT, attend Webinars, read the book, and reach checkpoints!!! There are just so many awesome tools and I feel that I barely even scratch the surface of one tool before I find out about another one and have to move on.
Learning…….
While reading the texts for class, I am learning that I know less and less! I thought that I was a fairly creative person, but when I read about all of the creative ways to incorporate: IM, blogging, podcasts, text messaging, cheat codes, and wikis in the classroom and workplace, I am amazed that I hadn’t the foggiest idea! It is amazing the ways in which one can utilize technology in order to bring people together and solve a common problem. Although I still feel very new to the process, I think I am taking some really good ideas from this process.
Still Managing
I am still trying to balance it all! I feel that sometimes it takes more time to work on all of these tools that save us time! I just feel that sometimes I have to use the good old pen and paper to write down everything on my list next to the computer so I don’t forget to do it all! :) I am finding use for many of these tools, but I am still learning which I think contributes to that feeling of being overwhelmed.
Animoto and VoiceThread
Although I am still learning and at times feel overwhelmed, I am actually finding some great uses for the tools that we have been using! I used Animoto to distribute information about our theatrical productions—it was so easy! And I have been able to use VoiceThread with previously created PowerPoints and made pretty interesting presentations. It is good stuff!
Technology Enchanced Learning
I think I already knew it, but while reading Web 2.0 it was made even more clear that technology is an immenesly creative way for students to learn. As opposed to having to wait to implement their skills in a FINAL project, technology allows for students to learn while they create. I think that being able to see the fruits of your labor is a great motivator for students—what they are doing and learning is actually applicable to their process.
Technology is EVERYWHERE
While reading Web 2.0, I was a bit surprised (for lack of a better word) to fully grasp how comfortable this new generation of learners will be with technology; it will be second nature to them! Because they will be so comfortable with the new technology they will be able to fully encompass the new Bloom’s taxonomy with ease. I think that it will all happen simulatenously—they will be creating while analyzing and evaluating. I think not having a fear of technology is the best tool of all.
Learning!!!!!
As I see and post on other blogs, I am reminded that blogs really can be utilized to communicate to an authentic audience (Solomon & Schrum, 2007). As many of us created our blogs for class, we are genuinely interested in what we all are doing. I know that I have looked at other blogs and wondered how I can also create some of the amazing features. In addition, because I am expressing what I feel is important to me, I feel that the blogging process actually does have some more purpose than I had originally believed (Solomon & Schrum, 2007). Finally, reading posts from other blogs has allowed me to gain the different perspectives from my fellow classmates, which is what it is all about!
Darius Goes West
I was lucky enough to see this documentary last night and actually witness Darius and his friends in person at the Plaza Theatre in El Paso. As soon as the film finished, I thought—hey I can put this on my blog and hopefully others will see this amazing story and help the cause. I learned so much from this film and Darius last night—I HIGHLY recommend seeing this film!!!!!!!!! How interesting that I can put my thoughts on the web, in my blog, to reach others. I don’t think that I would have thought of the usefulness of blogs in this way prior to last night!
